Snow Report: From Goggles to Sunglasses

For the cities and lower elevations of Central Oregon, snow is off the table as we warm up, but our mountain resorts and passes are in the middle of a major transition.

We’re seeing a classic "freeze-thaw" cycle right now—expect firm, fast runs in the morning that turn into soft, "mashed potato" snow by the afternoon as temperatures at mid-mountain climb into the mid-40s to low 50s.

If you’re traveling the passes tonight, stay alert for a few stray snow showers at the crests.

However, the snow level is skyrocketing from around 4,000 feet up to over 7,000 feet by tomorrow morning.

This means any moisture tomorrow will fall as rain at Santiam (Hwy 20) and Willamette (Hwy 58) levels.

The main hazard isn't fresh accumulation; it's the potential for "rain-on-ice" early Monday morning, which can make pavement extra slick before the warm air fully takes over.

We’re trading the powder for sunscreen this week, so wax those boards for the warm stuff and enjoy the early spring vibes.

Stay safe out there, Central Oregon!
