Snow continues tonight, dangerously cold conditions remain Sunday

The snow has been piling up all day and will continue to do so into the night. Snowfall amounts in the lower elevated locations are likely to be in the 7 – 10” range making travel difficult. The mountains will, once again, get 1 – 2 feet of snow. The snow is problematic enough, but the air temperatures are extremely dangerous.

The mercury in the thermometer is likely to stay around zero most of the day and dip below freezing for most of the night. Winds are not all that robust, but even a 10-mph wind will make it feel like 15 – 20 degrees below zero. This is the real danger this weekend and into next week.

The snow will end after midnight but the cold air will remain. Look for the temperatures to rise in the afternoon to the middle 20s. Sunshine will be able to get us out of the teens, but the snow on the ground inhibits the heating as it reflects most of the energy. Sunday will be cold once again, just not as cold as Saturday.

Monday will be slightly colder under partly sunny skies.  Winds will be brisk near the east face of the Cascades, so it will feel closer to single digits during the day at times west of highway 97.

More precipitation arrives Tuesday evening as the region warms above freezing for the first time in several days. There is another round of snow likely to arrive overnight into Wednesday then transition to a wintry mix by mid-afternoon.
