Warming above normal, wintry mix of precipitation continues off and on
The region has finally risen above the freezing mark, the first time since 2:15 pm on Friday. The 32° mark was obtained this morning at 2:30 am, 108 hours at or below freezing.
The warming trend got us into the 40s today and that has helped to melt some of the snow pack on area roads. Not too much will be reduced as the ice and snow are well packed. There is relief though and the sub-zero temps are in the rear-view mirror for now.
We are not out of the woods with respect to the possibility of a wintry mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain. There will be another wave of rain and snow crossing the region through Thursday. Generally, the lower elevations will see mainly rain as temps will be in the upper 30s. Expect snow on the mountains and a wintry mix in between the high desert and mountains, snow level above 6000 feet. Pockets of cold air are still pooling in some of the high desert locations which may lead to some light freezing rain and fog.
Friday looks dry and chilly with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Saturday will be slightly milder under variably cloudy skies. Sunday and Monday will once again be defined by the wintry mix of precipitation slated to cross the high desert. Overnight temps will hover around the freezing mark so if we do see precipitation, expect light snow or cold rain.
