Gusty at times overnight with lingering showers

The main feature over the next several hours will be the gusty winds as the low off the coast marches closer.  The winds will be from the southwest at 15 – 20 mph with gusts near 30 at times. The mountain passes may see gusts near 50 mph or higher.

The robust wind will remain into the overnight time frame before relaxing Thursday. The rain from our Atmospheric River pattern is not all that impressive over the high desert. Areas west of the Cascades will be dealing with much heavier rain while we are looking at light rain and drizzle.

The wet pattern remains across the region through Thursday, but again, off and on as well as light. The snow levels are well into the 6500-foot range today and will slowly drop to the 4000-foot range by Friday. In the meantime, expect the snow to continue melting until Friday, so the creeks and stream run fast and full as a result.

A passing shower will be our weather feature for Friday as the temperatures cool back to near normal levels. The snow will be confined to the mountains, but may see a few flakes at lower elevations, mingled with some rain.

Dry and cool over the weekend with the mountains see an inch or so added to the depleted bases each day.

The next chance for rain and snow will hold off until after the weekend.

Friday is Groundhog Day. Remember, if the Groundhog sees his shadow, it will get scared and run back into the burrow and wait six more weeks. If it is cloudy and no shadow is seen, it looks good for an early spring.
