Dry and sunny pattern to continue, chilly nights and mild days
Not much change in the overall pattern this week other than a gradual warming each day. The most prominent weather feature currently will be the cold nights ahead. There will be temperatures dipping into the middle 20s tonight as clear skies and light winds allow the mercury to dip quickly in the thermometer.
When there is no cloud cover to contain any heat gained during the day, and little wind to mix the molecules, temperatures drop quickly at night. We should be below freezing for several hours tonight, which may be a concern for young, budding plants. Since the growing season officially begins in June (according to the National Weather Service in Pendleton) no freeze products will be issued until that time frame, but that doesn’t mean we will not dip below 32°.Â
As for the forecast, we will be sunny and mild each day for the next several. The highs will be in the middle 60s over the weekend, then peak at 70 on Monday. There may be some light rain on the crests or west face of the Cascades Saturday, but not much will make it over the mountains.
Variably cloudy skies will be the best way to define the weekend sky conditions.
Normal overnight lows are close to 30° for mid-April and the afternoon highs are near 60°. We push above normal on Thursday, and should stay there through the weekend.
