Very hot and dry pattern not expected to end soon

KTVZ

We have been getting progressively hotter throughout this last work week and the heat isn’t going anywhere. This weekend we are reaching triple digits across the region. These very hot temperatures are expected to continue for the entirety of next week. We should break our 100+ degree trend by Wednesday or Thursday next week but will still be in the mid and upper 90s. There isn’t much relief expected during the nighttime hours either, with lows being in the upper 50s and 60s throughout the week.

Oregon is under a big upper level ridge of high pressure, along with much of the west coast. This system is large and slow moving and it will be hard to break down. I am expecting to see some record-breaking highs with this heat wave.

Most of the region is under an Excessive Heat Warning and/or a Fire Weather (Red Flag) Warning today. Please refer to the red Alert Banner at the top of the website for the most updated details.

We will also remain bone dry for the foreseeable future, meaning the risk of fire danger is increased, especially areas in Southern Deschutes County and Crook County. We will be breezier this weekend and mid next week.

Practice fire safety, drink plenty of water, be safe. This next week will be dangerously dry and hot. Fire concerns as well as heat related illnesses increase drastically during these times. If it’s too hot for you, it’s definitely too hot for your pets.

Have a good and safe weekend!
