Air quality concerns continue into the weekend

KTVZ

Today will be a warm day with highs reaching the mid 80s for the region. Yesterday, we saw highs in the upper 70s with a high temperature of 79 in Bend, so we didn’t even hit the 80s. Yesterday was a little cooler than normal for this time of year but we’ll be seeing those seasonal temperature through early next week. We’ll get back into the 90s by mid to late next week. Lows will remain in the 40s and 50s.

Air quality continues to be the big story. We’ve been getting to the unhealthy AQI level quite often recently. Yesterday we had a slightly more favorable wind pattern to keep our area better ventilated. Today, not so much. We’re seeing variable winds from the east and northeast throughout the morning until we see a northerly wind shift in the evening. This will be an issue for us because most of the fires are east of us. So that means we can expect some poor air quality today, likely reaching unhealthy levels and in some eastern regions, like Prineville, even very unhealthy AQI levels.

Limit or avoid outdoor activities, if at all possible. Wear a mask if you must. When the AQI reaches unhealthy levels, they affect the general public along with sensitive groups.  Deschutes and Crook County both still have active Air Quality Advisories until further notice. Please refer to the banner at the top of the website for the most updated information.

Breezy conditions are expected on Saturday. We have a little moisture moving into our region and therefore will see a few more clouds move in early next week.

Happy Friday and be safe today!
