Freezing fog advisory to persist through Thursday morning, rain returns Saturday

The fog will likely return overnight to the region as well as the below normal temperatures.  The freezing fog advisory is extended until 11 am Thursday morning.  Travel conditions will be compromised as the icy glaze, or rime ice generated by the fog that freezes on contact.  This morning ice crystals have formed on tree branches, cars, and decks as well as some patchy ice on area roads.  The feathered look to the ice may not be intense enough to pull down trees or power lines, but it will make getting around slick and dangerous. Lows are expected to be in the teens and 20s once again tonight.

Last night some snow developed in the fog, a rather odd occurrence but with the moisture present (the fog) and the temps below freezing, the snowflake developed and dropped to the ground. Only a light coating, but is was interesting to see nonetheless.

The rest of the week looks to be on the mild side as highs will reach the 50s though Saturday.  There is an area of high pressure over the region that we are on the western edge of. This will allow some milder air to arrive from the south, slightly warming the area.  There will be plenty of sunshine to help scour out or “burn off” any lingering fog by noon Thursday, but may persist north of Bend into Redmond causing issues with travel delays at the airport.

Friday will be partly cloudy and dry with highs in the low 50s ahead of a line of showers expected Saturday. The showers Saturday will be arriving in the afternoon and will be associated with a cold front.  The rain may switch over to a wintry mix before Sunday morning, then a few flurries are possible Sunday afternoon.

Highs Saturday will be in the low 50s, highs Sunday will be in the low 40s. Overnight lows this weekend will be near 30°.

Please stay safe.
