Freezing fog stays north, rain likely Saturday, mountain snow Sunday

The persistent pattern of patchy and widespread freezing fog is expected to linger north of Jefferson County tonight. The fog may re-develop in Jefferson and Deschutes Counties to the point of another Freezing Fog Advisory may be issued late tonight.  This will be monitored closely, but the bottom line is that there is still a threat of fog tonight, just not as thick or intense as the last several nights.

There will be a shift in the weather pattern Saturday as a cold front will cross the state from the west and northwest. Ahead of the front will be a mild air mass that will allow some areas to reach 50° before the frontal passage.

Please join myself and the rest of the NewsChannel 21 team at the Bend Christmas Parade which steps off at noon Saturday.

The front will be accompanied by rain that will arrive in the early afternoon and linger for about two or three hours. The rain will be light, and soak politely into the soil that is not totally frozen at this point in the season. The air behind the front will be crisp as the lows will dip into the middle 20s most areas.

Overnight into Sunday there will be some snow in the mountains. If you are traveling over any of our passes, prepare for some slick roads.  The snow will not be overwhelming, adding just 2 – 3” of new snow to the mountains, but it will generate travel issues. The High Desert will see a few flurries but little in the way of accumulations.

Monday will be mostly sunny and crisp with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s under mostly sunny skies. The same is expected on Tuesday before we start to transition to a period of wet weather slated to arrive later in the work week.

Please stay safe.
