Wintry mix of rain, snow and freezing rain overnight
The region is under a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect and will expire at 4pm Friday.
This weather event is going to be a mix of snow and freezing rain. The snow will only be about an inch or so along the east face of the Cascades, but the real concern is the chance for some freezing rain. The freezing rain will not be widespread, in fact it should only be in a few pockets, but it is a dangerous scenario. Jefferson county is expected to be the area impacted by the freezing rain, but snow and a wintry mix will occur throughout Central Oregon. Anyone traveling north of Jefferson County will probably see more inclement weather. Some portions of Deschutes County, including Redmond and Sisters, may see some icy roads as well.
The rest of our viewing area will have to contend with cold rain mixed with a bit of snow. There will be reduced visibility and slick roads due to patchy ice and some snow. This is not a well defined event and is more a variety of rain and snow and ice that combine to create dangerous driving conditions. The bottom line is that the roads will be slick and travel will be impacted.
Saturday more rain and snow are expected to arrive so the persistent pattern of wet weather continues. Off and on rain is likely during the day and there may be some snow mixed in early in the morning when the temperatures are cold enough. The rain and snow will linger into the overnight time frame Saturday to Sunday then taper off early Sunday.
Sunday looks to be the dry day with some clearing and breezy conditions. Temperatures will be slightly milder as we are expecting to see the sun for more than just a couple of minutes.
Monday will be mostly cloudy with passing showers off and on through the day. Tuesday begins a period of dry weather.
