A mix of rain and snow today, travel concerns all weekend

The seemingly endless parade of rainy days and snow/rain nights continues in the Pacific Northwest.  Today we will see high elevation snow and lower elevation rain and wintry mix. Slick roads and reduced visibility will elevate the danger on area roads.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Sunday night for the crest of the Cascades as well as the east face.  Southern and Western Deschutes Counties are in the advisory area, including La Pine, Sunriver, Sisters and Lava Butte.  Don’t expect much snow accumulation since the snow will mix with the rain at times. The general thought is for that region to see about 2 – 3" of snow by the end of the day Sunday.  Foggy and misty weather is also on the docket.

As for Bend, Redmond, Madras, and Prineville, expect to see a heavy dose of light rain and mist most of the weekend.  Temperatures will be close to freezing overnight, but not much snow is expected. The rain and snow this afternoon will come to an end before midnight so we may see a few stars tonight if we are lucky.

Don’t get too used to the clearing pattern, more rain, and a mix of rain and snow is likely Sunday.  There may be some icy roads to kick off the day, then some icy roads in the middle of the afternoon.

This wet pattern will continue into the evening then more rain is possible Monday.  Not much, but enough to keep the roads wet and slick.

The mountains will be seeing about 6 – 10" of snow by the time tomorrow evening ends.  The resorts will, once again, be happy with the additional new snow.

By Tuesday the reign of the rain will be over, and the region will start to see sunshine and milder afternoon temperatures.
