Rain and snow expected to return Friday

The fog and freezing fog will linger in the areas north of Redmond and will likely remain into the evening. Otherwise, plenty of sunshine and dry weather for area south of Redmond.  It has been a while since Bend has seen a clear and mostly sunny day, unfortunately that is not the case for the rest of Central Oregon.

Look for another round of rain and wintry mix to arrive Friday as a cold front pushes through and provides the lift for the rain and snow.   The timing will be early in the day and the origin of the rain and snow will be from the northwest so Warm Springs and Sister will see the moisture first as it spreads across the viewing area.  All regions will see wet weather, those closest to the Cascades will see more of a snow and some rain mix, those east of there will see mainly rain and some snow.  Accumulations of mountain snow should only be a few inches.  Sisters and south in La Pine and Sunriver may see a couple of inches as well.

The moisture ends in the early evening but a few flakes may last into the night in a few areas.  The chance for some snow in Prineville late is also in the cards.  Basically, spotty precipitation will linger into the evening.

Saturday and Sunday will be colder than normal as the highs are expected to reach the middle and upper 30s. Normal for early January is around 42 so a crisp pattern will develop. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine both days, with a bit more sunshine Saturday than Sunday. A few flakes may fly in Sisters and La Pine Sunday, but only about a 15% chance of that, so not much confidence in that prognostication.

Dry and near normal weather will define the new work week. Highs will reach the low to middle 40s under partly cloudy skies.

Please stay safe.
