Mild and dry for now, rain and snow begin late Thursday
The dry and mild weather continues into Wednesday as high pressure is in complete control. Temperatures are expected to hit the low 50s tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and light winds. The Air Stagnation Advisory is still in place until early Friday morning so if you can, refrain from any outdoor burning. The weather pattern will be changing to a much wetter regiment starting Friday, so the air quality will improve with the advent of the rain and snow.
Thursday will be the day of transition with a line of rain arriving from the west. The day will start out with plenty of sunshine, then clouds will overtake the region and the rain will arrive a few hours after sunset. This will initially be in the form of all rain, then mix with snow and possibly sleet as the night moves along.
Friday will be the beginning of a long stretch of snowy and rainy days. The mountains will be enjoying several inches of snow each day and the lower elevations will be impacted by a mix of rain, snow, and icy roads. The temperatures will not be cold enough to support an all-snow event, so the snow will be elevation driven. In other words, above 4500 feet it looks like a lot of snow, at the lower elevations it will be messy with a mix of rain, snow, and ice.
There is currently no end in sight to the snow and mix as the models that push out seven days indicate it will be wet and icy starting Friday.
Enjoy the mild weather the next couple of days, then be safe in the snow and ice, if you love the snow, this is your type of forecast.
Please stay safe.
