February starts out snowy

Today there should begin with some snow on the ground from an overnight round of light snow. That should be about it for the day on the High Desert, but we will still see off and on snow over the Cascades.

Sunday will be chilly and cloudy as the snow will continue to fall in some spots over the Cascades. There will be much more snow this week as the atmospheric river sets up to the south. But an area of low pressure will drop down the coast from the Gulf of Alaska during the weekend and that should be the feature that will provide us with some snow on Monday.

As for the river, we will continue to monitor the track during the rest of the forecast period. Currently a large band of snow/rain is located to our south. This line of snow will provide heavy snow to southern and then eastern Oregon over the next several days, but Central Oregon will only see periods of light snow from time to time.

If the line shifts to the north, we will be in for a lot more snow, but currently the pattern is forecast to say south. We are “on the edge” of the track of snow, but it is close enough that we will see periods of snow arrive from time to time.

Overall the pattern is much colder and more in line with winter.  The temps this time of year should be in the middle 40s, but we will be in the middle to lower 30s for the next several days.

Stay warm and enjoy the snow, but be careful when you are driving.
