Wintry pattern kicks off the month of February
The chance for light snow over Central Oregon will continue well into next week as the pattern shift to a more “wintry” one is here. Earlier in the week the mercury in the thermometer hit the 60° mark a few times, but that is not going to be the case in the upcoming weekend and next week.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place until 4 pm Saturday for western Deschutes and Jefferson counties with the focus being snow. The snow will be off and on, but not accumulate much more than a couple of inches. A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Cascades as several inches of snow will impact the mountains. Travel through the passes will be dangerous at times, so exercise caution when heading over the mountains.
Saturday should begin with some snow on the ground from an overnight round of light snow. That should be about it for the day on the High Desert, but we will still see off and on snow over the Cascades.
What we will continue to monitor during the rest of the forecast period is a large band of snow to our south. This line of snow will provide heavy snow to southern and then eastern Oregon over the next several days, but Central Oregon will only see periods of light snow.
If the line shifts to the north, we will be in for a lot more snow, but currently the pattern is forecast to say south. We are “on the edge” of the track of snow, but it is close enough that we will see periods of snow arrive from time to time.
Overall the pattern is much colder and more in line with winter. The temps this time of year should be in the middle 40s, but we will be in the middle to lower 30s for the next several days. Stay warm and enjoy the snow, but be careful when you are driving.
Please stay safe.
