Bitter cold pattern takes over, widespread snow arrives Thursday

The main feature over the next couple of days will be the bitter cold air that is impacting the region. Spotty snow showers are lingering today, but the bigger story will be the near zero temperatures overnight into Wednesday. The coldest day of the season will be tomorrow, with lows starting our below freezing in some locations and only rising to the middle 20s in the afternoon. Please prepare properly for the blast of arctic air tonight and again Wednesday night.
While the cold air is the major issue for the next couple of days, there is also some snow on the horizon. Thursday morning we should see another blanket of snow throughout the Tri-Counties region. An area of low pressure will push a shield of snow showers over Oregon, from south to north Thursday, depositing two the four inches of new snow. The snow will also bring in milder air so the bitter cold of tonight and tomorrow will be leaving the Beaver State.
The snow will taper off in the early afternoon Thursday, but return on Friday morning as a wintry mix. The afternoon high temperatures will be in the middle to upper 30s, breaking our run of temps below freezing. The mix will start out as snow early Friday, then switch to rain and snow in the afternoon.
Icy roads are now back in the forecast as the wet afternoon mix of rain and snow has a good chance of icing up overnight in the sub-freezing air.
Saturday will be milder and cloudy then more snow and rain return Sunday and Monday. Temps will be in the 40s each afternoon Saturday through at least Tuesday.
Please stay safe.
