Windy pattern ends as mild and dry conditions take over the region tonight

Today the high wind warning expired at 4 pm Tuesday as expected, and. now the winds relax moving forward into the evening and into Wednesday. The gusts and the winds have been providing headaches for many as winds have howled to nearly 50 mph in some locations over the past 24 hours and the rain has led to minor flooding along some creeks and streams. The water flows are fast and the creeks and streams are full as the double up factor (melting snow and rain) pushed some waterways to their banks.

The forecast is much drier and less windy as the week pushes along.  The mercury in the thermometer will rise into the 60s Thursday in the afternoon and will repeat that through Saturday. No rain or snow is in the forecast for several days.

The only chance for us to see some rain or snow is Sunday and that is very low at best.  There will be some rain, snow and freezing rain over the Cascades Sunday morning and afternoon that may slip into the 97-highway corridor, but very low chance.

The result of the precipitation, more correctly the reason for the precipitation, is due to the passage of a cold front Sunday. Highs from Sunday though the middle of next week will be near 50°.  March looks to come in like a lamb, not a lion.

The proverb, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb” is the result of the climatological patterns during the month of March. The transition from winter to spring often brings windy and wild weather to most areas of the country. Rowdy weather patterns to close out the winter season and mild ones to start spring.  No real meteorological value, much like the groundhog, but still fun to keep track of.

Please stay safe.
