Drying out heading into the weekend

As we head toward the end of the first week of March, the weather patterns will be much more reminiscent of spring than winter. The skies will clear tonight allowing for the mercury to drop into the upper teens in La Pine and Sunriver, providing us with a wintry reminder.  The temps will have a tough time rebounding Thursday under partly to mostly sunny skies as we are impacted by a cold pocket of air in the upper levels of the atmosphere.

The warm up begins on Friday as the cold low overhead pushes east and opens the door for a warmer pattern. The winds Thursday will be noticeable but not overwhelming, while Friday looks to be dry and quiet. Temps begin to trend warmer as highs reach the low 50s.

Over the weekend we get a taste of spring once again. Under mostly sunny skies the temperatures will reach the low 60s. Winds both days will be light and variable as we steady the ship.

Overnight into Sunday morning we begin Daylight Saving Time. That means we push the clocks ahead one hour, at 2am, and we get light later in the day and darkness lingers a bit longer in the morning. No real change in the length of day, just our perception of it. It does bring to mind the feeling that we are heading into the spring-like pattern, psychologically, as most of us see sunset later in the day.

Next week will be a bit more wintry though as we will be looking at some spotty rain and overnight snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please stay safe.
