Rainy and wintry mix pattern the rest of the week

Rain starts this evening and will change over to a wintry mix overnight. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place from Wednesday evening through Thursday night. Most of the snow will be on the mountains, but a mix of rain and snow will persist at lower elevations, off and on, until at least Monday.

The rain will be steady most of the day Wednesday and the mountains will be in line for more snow, albeit wet snow.  The rainy and wintry mix conditions will be off and on through the rest of the week and I expect to see some patchy ice on Thursday morning.

Thursday will see an end to the widespread rain and mountain snow, but not before a transition to snow overnight from Wednesday. There may be some sunshine from time to time Thursday but the overall wet pattern is not going to change until next week.

Friday will see another day of snow and rain changing to rain as temperatures will be in the upper 40s, but start out in the middle 20s. Icy mornings will be a concern most of the week.

Saturday continues the theme of rain and snow over the high desert with temperatures dipping slightly below freezing to start the day, then warming to the 40s by noon. Sunday may be the day with the most precipitation, and the concern for flooding is now on the table as the snow and rain start to become a bit overwhelming for the small streams and creeks.

The temperatures over the Cascades seem to indicate that the snow is not going to be melting significantly this week, so the flooding concerns are mainly due to the persistence of the rain at lower elevations.

Please stay safe.
