Warm pattern this weekend, isolated storms possible

Friday will see the mercury in the thermometer rise into the low 70s, about right for this time of year.  Normal highs are the upper 60s to low 70s. A good deal of sunshine is also on the docket heading into the long holiday weekend.

Saturday kicks off the three-day weekend with highs in the low 80s and upper 70s. Expect this to be the beginning of a well above normal run that will extend into the short work week.

Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend as highs will hit the middle 80s. Some models are calling for temperatures in the upper 80s, that may be a stretch, but we will see how that plays out.

There is a concern for some storms to develop late in the day Sunday as we deal with the warmer pattern. The chance for an isolated storm overnight into Memorial Day has prompted the KTVZ weather team to issue a Local Alert Weather Day for Monday.  The storms may be developing Sunday night, but will linger into Monday.  This may change as we get closer to the event, but currently the Alert Day is Monday.

The Yellow Alert Day is issued when weather may be impacting your plans but not overwhelmingly disruptive. We need you to be weather aware on Sunday night and Monday as a good deal of outdoor plans are in place. No severe weather is expected, just general thunderstorm activity.  Lightning is dangerous so we want you to have a plan in place to get to a safe zone if you hear the thunder.

Timing is everything, so here is what we know at this moment with the data available.

Overnight into Memorial Day there is a chance for some isolated showers to arrive, and maybe some thunder. These showers will be over by the early morning of Memorial Day and we should see a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the middle to upper 70s as the day moves along.  Due to the warm air, we may see some isolated storms pop up in the heat of the day Monday.

After that, the short work week will be mainly mild and dry with highs in the upper 70s and a few low 80s.

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer to many people, and with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s next week, the weather pattern agrees.
