The heat from the last several days is coming to an end as a “less hot” pattern arrives. The temps since Saturday have been in the 90s and broke records each of the past four days in Bend. The next several days will see highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.

We have been placed in the Elevated Risk for Fire Danger by the Storm Prediction Center. Dry air from the west and the warmer pattern so far this week has the Center concerned about fire ignitions. Please be aware of all fire prevention tactics and behaviors.

The storms Tuesday were extremely electric with thousands of lightning strikes with the storms. Considering the previous heat wave ahead of the storms, there is a concern about new fire starts in the region. There have been a few that were reported but extinguished or burned out, but we have seen fires flair up several days after the lightning strike.  We will be watching for any smoke.

The rest of the week and into the weekend will be quiet as we see a pleasant late Spring pattern take over. Spring ends on the 20th of June as the Summer Solstice when the direct rays of the Sun over the tropic of Cancer.  Summer seems to have started early with all the 90-degree heat, but we are officially still in the Astronomical Spring. The Meteorological Spring, however, is in full swing and defined by the three warmest months (June, July, and August).

Plenty of sunshine this week and into the weekend, so make sure when you have a good deal of exposed skin, to lather up with sunscreen.

Please stay safe.
