The Alder Springs Fire in Jefferson County near Crooked River Ranch is being aggressively attacked today by the land and air. Land resources are creating control lines and establishing a defensive posture around the perimeter. The air attacks are dropping retardant to slow the migration of the perimeter and coordinating with the ground forces to secure it.

Weather today is warm and breezy, with winds generally from the northwest and west.  These are not ideal conditions for the firefighting efforts. Winds may increase tomorrow, which is not good news either.  Firefighters are doing an excellent job, as always.

Wednesday will be another warm and dry day with winds from the north and northwest. Highs will be in the low 80s, about 5 degrees above normal for mid-June.

Thursday will be slightly cooler as highs only reach the middle 70s, just about right for this time of year. The winds do pick up slightly and we will feel a noticeable breeze in the area from the north.

Friday will be the day of transition with clouds filling the skies and the region cooling into the low and middle 60s. Rain is possible late in the day and may be accompanied by a few thunderstorms.

Saturday will be cool and rainy with highs in the low 60s as the rain and cooler pocket of air combine for the cooler than normal day. Sunday will see some showers early in the day but taper off by the afternoon. Highs will be slightly warmer, but still in the middle 60s.

Warmer and drier weather arrives on Monday with highs in the 70s followed by the low 80s on Tuesday.

This is also the last week of Spring 2025.  Spring ends on the 20th of June and summer begins as the Summer Solstice is Friday. That is defined in astronomical terms as the moment in time when the direct rays of the Sun over the tropic of Cancer. This year the solstice occurs at 7:41 pm local time.  The Meteorological Summer, however, is in full swing and defined by the three warmest months (June, July, and August).
