Summer starts out chilly, breezy and rainy 

There is a deep pocket of cold air that is dropping in from the Gulf of Alaska that is cooling us back to the 50s and 60s for a spell.  There is a decent amount of moisture associated with the cool down so we should have a chance for a good old-fashioned soaking today. Winds will be noticeable as well, gusting to near 25 mph at times tonight and Saturday. 

For the most part, today will be cloudy, rainy and cool as the mercury in the thermometer will only reach the upper 50s. Normal highs for this time of year are around the middle 70s, so we are about 20 degrees under that mark.  There will also be some widespread rain that will “water the lawns” in the region. Not a lot of rain is expected, possibly about a tenth of an inch or slightly more, but any rain is good rain when we are so far behind with respect to seasonal rainfall. 

Today is also the first full day of summer 2025, which began at 7:41 pm Friday night.  The summer solstice occurs when the direct rays of the sun are over the Tropic of Cancer.  This is also the day with the most daylight vs. darkness, often referred to as the longest day of the year (but as we know, all days have only 24 hours). 

Sunday will see a return to a dry pattern as the showers taper off around sunrise, and the skies will be clearing as the morning moves along.  Highs will rebound back to the upper 60s and low 70s, still below normal but trending warmer. 

Monday sees the return of the upper 70s and low 80s as a sunny pattern sets in for several days. Highs by the middle of the week will be approaching 90, but probably only hit the upper 80s.  Summer will be more recognizable next week as opposed to this weekend with temps more reminiscent of July than June.
