Possible record heat again today, Local Alert Day in place
The heat continues today and again Wednesday as the mercury in the thermometer reaches the upper 90s today and the low 90s Wednesday. There is an Extreme Heat Warning until 10 pm tonight for Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras with a Red Flag Warning in place until Wednesday night for all of the Tri-counties. Dangerous heat may lead to health issues today as some areas north of Redmond may see 100+ degrees.
The “less hot” weather on Wednesday is still hot, so make sure to stay hydrated and in the shade as much as you can if you are out and about.
Thursday will see temperatures in the low 80s, but still plenty of sunshine. A classic Mid-August day for Central Oregon.
The dry pattern and near normal conditions are expected into the weekend, with showers and storms on the way.
Storms are expected to arrive late on Saturday and may be associated with some dry lightning. Fire concerns are always high this time of year, and dry lightning is not a welcomed sight.
Sunday may be a bit more active with stronger and more widespread storms expected. Currently the storms are likely to focus on NE Jefferson County and Eastern Crook County, but that may change. I will fine tune the forecast as the weekend approaches. In the meantime, stay out of the heat as best you can.
Stay safe in the heat this week.
