LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Heat wave forecasted for Central Oregon
BEND, Ore (KTVZ) -- High pressure is dominating the western half of the country as we head into the weekend. This will provide the dry and hot pattern that will last into next week.
Today starts the heating process as the mercury in the thermometer will hit the upper 80s to low 90s most locations. This is the start of our heat wave. Highs Friday through at least Wednesday will be in the middle to low 90s, with our hottest day being Saturday. Saturday the temperature readings will be in the upper 90s. This is our Local Alert Day.

If you are planning any outdoor activities, stay hydrated and be mindful of anything that may start a fire. The fuel on the ground is very dry and if sparked, will fire up quickly and spread rapidly.

The definition of a heat wave in Central Oregon is a string of at least three days of 90° weather. The forecast is calling for us to get into the 90s today or Friday and the heat will continue to reach the 90s into the middle of next week. This will meet the defined criteria for a heat wave, so prepare for several days of 90+ heat.
Check on your neighbors during this long string of hot weather. Also, be aware of any outdoor pets or livestock as they too will be impacted by the heat.
Plan outdoor activities early in the day or in the evening when temperatures are more tolerable.
There may be a few isolated showers or storms that develop in the heat of the day, but nothing organized. Sunday may be the first day with a pop-up shower or storm, so that is also something to keep in mind over the next several days.
Stay safe.
