Warm and sunny week, chilly nights and dry days
(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) The pattern of sunny and dry weather continues this week. The ridge of high pressure is over the western portion of the United States and will keep us dry and warm.
Sunshine will allow the area to dry out, leading to a concern for wildfires. As the week moves along the risk for rapid spread of wildfires increases. The afternoon temperatures will be in the 80s all week as well so the warmth and drying are being noted.
The other side of the coin is that this week is a quiet and mild return to a summer-like feel. Soon enough Central Oregon will be dealing with chilly conditions so if you are a fan of the warmth, you should embrace this late summer pattern of above normal conditions. The sweaters and sweat shirts are not quite needed, but will be soon.
Wednesday will be another warm day with highs in the middle 80s under mostly sunny skies. More of the same on Thursday. A few clouds arrive on Friday but we are still embracing the warmth of the sunshine.
Saturday and Sunday will also be above normal but the ridge does seem to migrate to the east. This will open the door for some cloud cover and possibly a few stray showers in southern Oregon. The mercury will only top out in the upper 70s Sunday, which is still above the normal mid-70s for mid-September.
The region returns to the 80s on Monday and Tuesday, but a noticeable increase in cloud cover starts late Monday. Tuesday will be a warm and rainy day as a cold front moves across the Beaver State and provides us with some much needed rain.
Long range models indicate that the rain next Tuesday will be the beginning of several days of wet weather to close out the month.
