Local Alert Weather Day: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Cascades

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -Tuesday starts fairly quiet with increasing clouds and mild temperatures in the 50s. Winds will pick up this afternoon leading to breezy conditions across the High Desert. Winds will pick up this afternoon, and by evening, precipitation develops in the Cascades before spreading east.

A colder spring storm will develop as a low drops down from the Gulf of Alaska.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Cascade crest and east slopes from 5pm today through 5am Thursday. This spring storm is expected to bring periods of moderate to heavy snow to the mountains.

Across the High Desert, most areas will see cold rain. Up to an inch of snow is possible south of Bend, but little accumulation is expected since the ground is relatively warm. Still, a few slick spots could develop on roads Thursday morning, so allow extra travel time if you are heading out early.

Local Alert Weather Days have been issued for Wednesday and Thursday. Conditions across the High Desert will be chilly and wet, creating more of a nuisance than a major impact.

Travel through the mountain passes could be difficult Wednesday through early Thursday due to snow and reduced visibility, so you may want to adjust travel plans if possible.

Colder air arrives with the system Wednesday, with temperatures dropping further by Thursday. Afternoon highs will fall into the 40s to low 50s.

Drier weather returns Thursday afternoon, but temperatures will remain cool with highs in the upper 40s.

Sunshine returns Friday, helping temperatures warm into the upper 50s. A milder pattern continues into Saturday, with highs climbing back into the 60s. Another system may bring precipitation by Sunday.
