Bend man runs from police, caught after search

A Bend man under investigation for violating a restraining order ran from a police officer as he left a northeast Bend gym Saturday morning, prompting a search that eventually found him hiding, officers said. A gun was found in his pickup, a violation for the convicted felon, they added.

Grant Schlicker, 38, ran from the officer in the area of Xcel Fitness at Northeast Purcell Boulevard and Twin Knolls Drive, Lt. Brian Kindel said.

Schlicker, who police had been investigating for violating a no-contact order, ran through several backyards and business areas as he tried to get away, Kindel said.

Police set up a perimeter and found him around 9:40 a.m., hiding in an undeveloped area near the Healy Heights Apartments and 1900 Northeast Bear Creek Road, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Kindel said an investigation determined Schlicker had left his 2012 Chevy pickup at the gym and ran when an officer tried to contact him.

A gun was visible inside the pickup, so officers got a search warrant and seized an unloaded revolver, the lieutenant said.

Schlicker was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of violating a restraining order, felon in possession of a firearm, interfering with a police officer and two counts of second-degree criminal trespass, Kindel said.

A jail officer said Schlicker was released from jail Saturday afternoon after posting 10 percent of his $13,000 bail.
