Shoe prints lead to Crook County burglary suspect’s arrest
Shoe prints on a dirt and gravel road lead to the arrest of a 32-year-old man Wednesday in the Juniper Canyon area southeast of Prineville, accused of breaking into a nearby home’s storage building and stealing more than $1,000 worth of remodeling supplies.
A Crook County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched shortly before 8 a.m. to a reported burglary at a home on Southeast Winchester Loop, Sgt. Chris Estes said.
After processing the crime scene, deputies interviewed neighbors, then tracked the suspect’s shoe prints on the dirt and gravel road to a home down the street, Estes said.
Deputies contacted a suspect, identified as Christopher Turnwall. Estes said Turnwall admitted to the burglary, and the stolen items were recovered from inside his home.
Turnwall was arrested and booked into the county jail in Prineville on charges of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. He remained held Wednesday evening on $32,500 bail, a jail officer said.
Estes said the investigation is continuing and more charges are possible.
State court records show Turnwall entered an amended guilty plea to a DUII charge on July 18 and was scheduled for sentencing Sept. 6. He also pleaded guilty in 2006 to fourth-degree assault, third-degree theft and second-degree burglary charges.
