Three arrested in drug raid on NW Redmond home

Acting on a tip from a concerned neighbor, three Redmond residents, including a mother and son, were arrested Thursday in a raid on a northwest Redmond home where several drug-related arrests have occurred in recent years, police said Friday.

Police received a complaint Wednesday from a neighbor of the home in the 300 block of Northwest Hemlock Court, Lt. Curtis Chambers said.

The neighbor suspected drug sales at the home due to the high level of short-stay traffic at the home and people frequenting the home who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, Chambers said. Police conducted surveillance on the home and “witnessed activity consistent with the drug sales,” he added.

After one such brief visit, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation after it left the home. Redmond Police K-9 Patches alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, and officers determined the driver and passenger both possessed controlled substances. Chambers said no other details were release on that stop because of the continuing investigation.

Based on information from the traffic stop, police applied for and received a search warrant that was served early Thursday morning.

Resident Darla Ashbaugh, 58, was arrested for frequenting a place where drugs are used, Chambers said. She was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and conditionally released later Thursday, according to a jail officer.

Also contacted during the raid was another resident of the home, Donald Reeve III, 51, who was taken to the jail and remained held without bail Friday on a parole violation, as well as meth possession and frequenting charges.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Ashbaugh’s son, Bryce Ashbaugh, 28, who also lived at the home and was arrested at another Redmond location, Chambers said. He also was held without bail at the jail on a parole violation, and also charged with meth delivery and possession.

A total of about 30 grams of methamphetamine was seized from the house and in the traffic stop, Chambers said.

In May of last year, police said a Warm Springs woman speeding away from the suspected drug house in a stolen car crashed into an SUV and two parked cars, then ran but was caught hiding nearby. Two passengers in the car suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“The residence has been a long-time source of angst among citizens in the neighborhood,” Chambers wrote in the news release. “There have been several drug-related arrests originating at this house for several years.

“The Redmond Police Department is committed to permanently solving this problem and are hopeful the suspects will be charged and held accountable for the ongoing harm they are doing to our community. We would like to thank all of Redmond for reporting suspicious behavior and are dedicated to investigating crimes that directly affect Redmond’s quality of life.”
