Load limit set on bridge to Wildcat Campground
Bridge inspections last week revealed deterioration of the bridge accessing Wildcat Campground in the Ochoco National Forest, prompting a 5-ton load limit until repairs can be made, officials said Monday.
Due to the safety hazard posed by decaying timbers in the bridge structure, a load limit of 5 tons is now posted for the bridge. The affected road is Forest Service Road 3300-300.
The load limit will impact campground operations such as fire response, garbage pickup and toilet pumping. Hunters and other campground users could also be impacted if the combined weight of recreational and tow vehicles exceed the 5-ton limit.
The campground will remain open while the Forest Service implements safe alternatives to access the campground for maintenance and operational needs, officials said.
The Forest Service will be working this fall to determine bridge repair needs, costs and feasibility. The load limit restrictions may be reconsidered at that time.
