Jefferson County SO warns of ‘arrest warrant’ scam

KTVZ

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies warned the public Monday of a new rash of telephone scams alleging people are in legal hot water and that deputies are coming to arrest you, unless you pay up.

“They look like local numbers, but they are probably coming from outside of the country,” sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Wrote said in a text and email message sent by Frontier Regional Alert.

Grote urged people who get those calls to report them to the Oregon Department of Justice at 877-877-9392.

“Please pass on to your family and friends — we don’t want anyone falling for this scam,” Grote said. “The sheriff’s office will never contact you to ask for money over the phone.”
