Area closure reduced around Tepee Fire
The Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest said Friday it has reduced the size of the temporary area closure around the Teepee Fire.
The fire area is located about 10 miles southeast of Bend. The updated closure area includes all areas within the fire perimeter and reopens Forest Service Road 18. This closure still includes sections of several OHV trails, including portions of trails 22, 25, 18, 10, 12, and 16.
Firefighters have mopped up the perimeter and the Teepee Fire is now considered contained and controlled. Although the fire no longer threatens to spread outside the containment line, there may still be pockets of smoldering downed logs and trees inside the fire area. Weakened trees and other hazardous conditions still exist.
The Tepee Fire was started by an abandoned campfire on Sept. 7 and grew to 2,027 acres, burning in brush and timber. Firefighters responded quickly, using both aerial and ground resources to contain the fire.
