Fugitive hits garbage truck, flees, caught in DRW

A man wanted on a felony parole warrant fled after his pickup crashed into a garbage truck stopped to turn into the Riverwoods Country Store Friday afternoon, prompting a two-hour manhunt that led his arrest in the Deschutes River Woods subdivision, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. to the reported crash near the store on Baker Road off Highway 97, Sgt. Shawn Heierman said.

Deputies learned a blue 1990 GMC pickup driven by Krishna Desaigoudar had struck the back of a Cascade Disposal garbage truck that was stopped while waiting to turn into the store’s parking lot.

Heierman said deputies learned Desaigoudar, who left before they arrived, had an outstanding felony parole warrant..

Several deputies, including a detective unit, Oregon State Police troopers and a Bend police K-9 assisted in the search for Desaigoudar in Deschutes River Woods.

He was found around 3:30 p.m., taken into custody and booked into the county jail, where he was held without bail on both parole and probation warrants, according to jail records.

Online court records show Desaigoudar has been arrested more than a dozen times on felony charges since 1991, most in Coos County and more recently in Deschutes County.

In March of 2016, Central Oregon drug agents and the region’s SWAT team arrested Desaigoudar as he slept in his pickup truck along Highway 22 in Linn County. They said they found more than a half-pound of methamphetamine and five guns — three of them stolen — in his truck.

Detectives said he was traveling to the Salem area to obtain the drugs he was selling in Central Oregon and that he also dealt in possible stolen firearms.

In 2017, Desaigoudar entered no-contest pleas to felon in possession of a firearm and methamphetamine delivery, two of the 10 counts against him, and was sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison and two years post-prison supervision.
