Adair pulls ahead of Cook in Deschutes commission race

The two closely watched Deschutes County commissioner races were not quite as tight in ballots counted by early Wednesday morning, and the lead exchanged a second time in one of them.

In the Position 3 race, Republican Patti Adair led Democrat James Cook by 407 votes in the first round of results early Tuesday night. But Cook pulled ahead by just three votes in the second round of results issued late Tuesday night , 32,769 to 32,766.

But Adair regained the lead in results early Wednesday, 45,064 to 43,808, or 51 to 49 percent, for a 1,256-vote margin.

Adair knocked off incumbent Tammy Baney in the May GOP primary.

Things were also close in the other race, as incumbent Position 1 Commissioner Tony DeBone, the Republican and Independent parties’ nominee, held a 51 to 49 percent lead over Democratic challenger Amy Lowes.

DeBone’s winning margin as of Wednesday was twice that of Adair’s, at 2,517 votes (45,987 to 43,470).
