KTVZ

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy. Applications are available at the front office of the Sheriff’s Office during business hours. The application process will include a limited background investigation.

Sheriff John Gautney said this is the sixth year for this very successful program that exposes the citizens to the operations of the Sheriff’s Office and lets them see where their tax dollars are being spent.

This is a 13-week course that is free to the public. During the course, citizens will get the inside scoop on different divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the DA’s Office, Community Corrections, jail, search and rescue, emergency management, investigations, K9 demonstration and patrol. They will also get a tour of the 911 Dispatch Center as well as the current jail and of the new jail as it is being constructed.

There are firearm safety classes as well as an interactive use of force training including an afternoon at the firing range. Those who complete all of the firearm safety classes and the range day will qualify for the required class that is needed for a Concealed Handgun License.

The 2019 Session starts on February 6, 2019 and runs on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm through May 1. Classes are held in the Broughton Room at the Crook County Library. Class size is limited to the first 25 successful applicants, so be sure and get yours turned in right away.
