Crook County, St. Charles offer ‘Weigh In 2019’ class

KTVZ

Every year there seems to be a new wonder diet, yet as a community, we are still struggling with weight and the associated problems like heart disease and diabetes. There are proven methods that can help people who are interested in making positive, lifelong lifestyle changes, and getting off the diet roller coaster.

The Crook County Health Department and St Charles Health System in Prineville are teaming up to bring you Weigh-in Crook County 2019. The Weigh -In class follows the curriculum of the national Diabetes Prevention Program, an evidence-based lifestyle change program for preventing type 2 diabetes. The year-long program helps participants learn ways to incorporate healthier eating and moderate physical activity, as well as problem solving, stress-reduction and coping skills into their daily lives.

Participants meet with a trained lifestyle coach and a small group of people who are making lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes. This class is not specifically designed for people with diabetes, but rather for people who have risk factors for diabetes such as being overweight, inactive, or have a family history of diabetes. Sessions are weekly for the first sixteen weeks, and then at least monthly for the rest of the year.

Weigh-In Crook County 2019 is a FREE year-long program. This program helps participants achieve moderate weight loss by eating well and being active. The goals of the program include:

— Achieving 7 percent weight loss from starting weight
— Getting 150 minutes of physical activity each week
