OSP gives details in Crescent standoff, arrest
(Update: OSP IDs suspect, provides details)
A Monroe, Washington man showed a gun, threatened an Oregon State Police trooper and barricaded himself in a Crescent residence where he was staying, prompting a standoff that led to call-out of an OSP SWAT team and closure of Highway 97 on Saturday, troopers said.
Troopers said Richard Dale Minton, 54, refused to pull over for a traffic stop on the highway shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, then “presented a firearm and threatened an Oregon State Police trooper,” according to a log entry on the incident.
Minton then barricaded himself in a home where he was staying on Pond Drive in Crescent, just west of Highway 97. ODOT reported the highway was closed until the incident was resolved.
Police from several agencies headed south from the Bend area to assist in the situation.
The standoff ended in the early afternoon, when Minton came out of the home, was taken into custody and was taken to a hospital for treatment of “medical conditions,” the report stated. Troopers said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
Minton faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, attempting to elude police, pointing a firearm at another, reckless endangering, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, coercion and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
