Bend pedestrian enforcement: 19 tickets, 14 warnings

KTVZ

Bend police said they issued 19 citations and 14 warnings to motorists on Thursday during three-hour enhanced pedestrian safety enforcement operations at two intersections.

The enforcement detail took place from 9 a.m. to noon at the intersections of Northeast Revere Avenue and Sixth Street, and Northwest Newport Avenue and Drake Road.

The focus of the enhanced enforcement detail were violations related to pedestrian safety. Violations included failing to stop for pedestrians, cellphone use while driving, speeding and suspended licenses.

“The Bend Police Department received positive feedback from several citizens during the detail,” said Lt. Juli McConkey.

McConkey called it “astonishing” that so many people got tickets or warnings, when the plans for the operation and their times and locations were made known in advance.

“The Bend Police Department continues to ask motorists to slow down, follow all of the traffic laws and drive safely,” she said in a news release.
