BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Another sun break came to much of the Bend area Friday morning ahead of another strong winter storm and bitterly cold temperatures, as well as more winds topping 100 mph at higher elevations that have downed trees in many areas and forced a second day of suspended operations at Mt. Bachelor.

Bend Airport dropped from 28 degrees at 11:30 a.m. Friday to zero 12 hours later, with a -6 wind chill.

Due to snow and road conditions, beginning at noon on Saturday and continuing through end-of-day Sunday, Jan. 14, all COCC classes and events will be canceled and all campuses will be closed

At its update page, Mt. Bachelor said they expect to reopen Saturday, “but lifts will be significantly delayed due to heavy snowfall, storm recovery and strong winds.” All uphill travel remains closed for safety’s sake. Would-be visitors are urged to stay out of the parking lots and off the slopes.

Hoodoo, meanwhile, which just got to open Wednesday after much-delayed snowfall, is also dealing with lots of new snow and more to come, followed by forecast sub-zero temperatures and wind chills, so “deep, blowing snow will be the name of the game today,” their status report stated.
