Off and on wintry mix precipitation this weekend

Very little variation in the forecast over the next several days. Today we will be dealing with periods of rain and freezing rain and sleet. Highs will hit the upper 30s in most locations, about 4 – 7 degrees below normal for late January. Not much in the way of sunshine today, so the roads will more than likely stay icy.

The secondary roads are tough to get around on as the heavy snow from last weekend turned into slush this week, then it froze late in the week. The chunks of ice are not easily driven over and if you have a smaller sedan, you may be in trouble.

The temperatures are expected to get into the 40s on Sunday and the rest of the week, so melting is going to happen. The problem is that we are expecting to see some wintry mix precipitation each of the next 7 days. Not everywhere, but over our three counties. Snow may not be piling up past an inch or so, and the freezing rain doesn’t seem to be too much of a concern at this point, but there may be an icy glaze accumulating to some of the elevated surfaces around your house, and on the roads.

This persistent pattern of precipitation, off and on, is going to remain until the end of the week.

Some winter weather issues may be intense enough for the National Weather Service to issue a special statement or advisory, watch, or warning. Please monitor the Red Banner at the top of the page for Watches, Warnings and Advisories as they change periodically.
