Oregon DMV’s photo system back in service after 2-day-plus outage; driver’s licenses, permits, ID can be issued again

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Oregon DMV’s credentials system went down on Monday but was restored Wednesday afternoon, meaning the agency can once again issue driver’s licenses, permits and IDs at their offices, a spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon.

An earlier alert on their web page noted that “All DMV offices are currently unable to issue driver licenses, permits and ID cards – our system is temporarily down.”

Public Information Officer Michelle Godfrey told us shortly before 2:30 p.m., "Our system has been restored. Oregonians can now obtain photo licenses and IDs at any DMV office."

"Oregon DMV experienced a statewide photo system outage that prevented us from processing driver’s licenses, ID cards or instruction permits that require photos," Godfrey said. "The system was down April 22-24, affecting customers who came to an office to obtain a credential on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

"The outage was due to a system configuration issue," she added. "We have not experienced this type of system outage before, and it took some time to identify the cause. Our experts worked around the clock with our vendor to successfully restore the system for all customers this afternoon."

Earlier, Godfrey said that DMV was "not able to process credential issuances in our field offices, whether they require a photo or not.”

However, said they were able to process temporary permits (30-day) for individuals who have one that is about to expire, and also could still process any and all vehicle transactions,” noting that replacement and renewal credentials can be done online at DMV2U.
