CAIRO (AP) — Fighting is raging between Sudan’s military and a notorious paramilitary group in a central city after another front opened in a 14-month civil war. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began its offensive on Sennar province earlier this week and moved to seize the provincial capital of Singa. Residents described RSF fighters in pickup trucks mounted with automatic rifles rampaging through Singa, looting homes and shops and and taking over the city’s main hospital. The paramilitary group has been repeatedly accused of gross rights violations across the country since the war started in April last year, when tensions between the military and the RSF exploded into open fighting.
