(Update: Adding comments from fire chief)

CROOKED RIVER RANCH, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue hosted its annual Volunteer Firefighter Breakfast on Sunday morning. Dozens from across the Crooked River Ranch community showed up in support.

The breakfast is held every year on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Along with a fine morning meal, it's a chance to meet the local firefighters and support their volunteers.

"The volunteer association and the district put this on in combination, and it's raising funds for the volunteer association to help support the district with purchase of specialized equipment, training needs and then events we sponsor throughout the community," Fire Chief Sean Hartley said.

At the event, people got to explore three fire engines, two water tenders and two ambulances, as well as learn about defensible space. And, of course, eat breakfast: pancakes, biscuits and gravy and sausage.

Between volunteers and career staff, there are about 30 members total. If you want to become a volunteer firefighter, you can can visit their website.

"We have folks that do volunteer firefighting," Hartley said. "We have folks that do volunteer emergency medical services so they can participate They help with events. We respond to calls throughout the community and provide emergency services for everyone."

Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue is thankful for its community support.

"We couldn't do what we do without their support, with coming to the fundraiser breakfast like this," the fire chief said. "Supporting and donating to events we do throughout the year for the community and then supporting the district, allows us to respond to their calls for service in the district and serve them."

The Volunteer Firefighter Breakfast Fundraiser brought in about $3,000 last year, and they hoped to receive the same amount this year.
