La Pine resident loses cherished dog in attack by neighbor’s two dogs; DCSO says he ‘humanely euthanized’ pair
Matthew Draxton will have a report on NewsChannel 21 at Five
La Pine, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On Tuesday, August 27th, a La Pine woman who had been out celebrating her 27th birthday with her family returned home and soon found that her small dog, Genie, had been attacked and tragically died from its wounds due to an attack by a neighbor's two dogs.
One of those dogs was a wolf-dog hybrid and the other was a malamute, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's Sergeant Jason Wall told NewsChannel 21, "There have been calls for service at the residence that housed the wolf hybrid dog. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has responded to those calls for service and investigated thoroughly. As a result of these investigations, it was determined the reporting parties/victims were not willing victims, and did not want any citations issued.
"To be clear, the dogs in question, only one was a wolf hybrid, the other was a malamute. Both dogs were humanely euthanized by their owner after the attack on the small dog owned by Ms. Bucierka."
Matthew Draxton is speaking to La Pine resident Sonya Bucierka about the attack, how she responded in the moment, what justice she believes she deserves, and what changes she hopes to see as a result of the incident.
He's also speaking with sheriff's office about the investigation and what folks should do if they find themselves in a similar situation.
His report will be on NewsChannel 21 at Five.
