Apparent hit-and-run crash topples utility pole, brings down lines on Bend’s OB Riley Road, closed for repairs

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – An apparent hit-and-run crash broke a utility pole and brought down lines along O.B. Riley Road Tuesday morning, leaving another pole leaning over the roadway and closing the road for hours while cleanup and repairs got underway.

Bend Police Lt. Adam Juhnke said the crash was reported around 5 a.m. and that a vehicle got “tangled up in the aftermath, but it was not the vehicle that caused the damage.”

Pacific Power and Qwest poles and lines were damaged, so both were contacted to send repair crews, Juhnke said.

The road was blocked off by Bend Public Works near Mervin Sampels Road for repairs to take place.

There were no early estimates available of how many customers affected or how long repairs would take to complete.
