Remains found north of La Pine identified as missing Oregon City man; foul play not suspected

Deschutes County Sheriff's Office

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Investigators have identified human remains found in a wooded area north of La Pine earlier this week as an Oregon City man who had been missing from the Crescent area for over a year, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

“Currently, based on the evidence and investigation thus far, foul play is not suspected” in the death of the man, identified as Daniel Richard Phillips, 44, sheriff’s Sergeant Jason Wall said.

The remains were found Monday afternoon east of Highway 97 and north of State Recreation Road. Wall released initial details on Tuesday and advised the public was not in danger.

Sheriff’s detectives working with the District Attorney’s Office and Oregon State Police Forensics Unit were able to positively identify the man, Wall said.

The investigation is continuing, the sergeant said, and no further information will be released at this time.
