Summit High staff, including principal, to join ‘Mean Girls’ production on stage

(update: adding comments from cast, Summit principal)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Summit High School Theatre Company is bringing all the iconic characters of Mean Girls to the stage. The production, set to debut next month, will include special staff appearances, featuring none other than Principal Donna Servignat.

"It's a very small cameo. I have a couple of lines as a French teacher, because that's my teaching background. And then, there are four of us who are tap dancing lunch ladies." said Servignat.

Servignat stepped into the role of principal at Summit in July, bringing years of experience of education. She says this is not her first time dancing on stage. She grew up in Southern California and attended a performing arts magnet school at Chula Vista as a dance major.

The cast and crew said a few other Summit staff members will be making cameos. Some of the names mentioned were math teacher Heather Bussmann, social studies teacher Marie Spitz, and assistant principal Mary Thomas.

"I don't know if my teachers ever come to our shows. So it's nice to see some of them sitting in the audience and especially being on stage with us." said Makenna Kemp, the actress playing Regina George.

"Summit is very sports oriented, so we get overlooked a lot." said Scarlett Livingston, who plays Cady Heron. "But it's cool because I feel like with Mean Girls we've really been branching out to the staff."

"We really want to make sure that we understand that theater is so important for kids and helping them, learn all of those skills...just like they do on the fields." said Servignat.

Mean Girls: High School Verison will run the first two weeks in December in the Summit High auditorium. You can purchase tickets here.
