Bend-based nonprofit ReachAnother Foundation shifts fall fundraising focus, launches ‘Healing Kits’ campaign

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- ReachAnother Foundation, a Bend-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing and treating neural tube defects in Ethiopia, is shifting its fall fundraising focus this year. Instead of its annual October gala, the organization has launched a Healing Kits Campaign aimed at providing crucial after-care support for children recovering from spina bifida and hydrocephalus surgeries.

The Healing Kits contain essential supplies that help families care for their children following surgery, a critical step in preventing infections and complications, especially for those living days away from major hospitals. With Ethiopia’s pediatric neurosurgery program expanding, aftercare has become a priority for families, who rely on these kits for the basics needed to ensure safe recovery at home. Each Healing Kit costs $50, and ReachAnother’s goal is to equip 1,000 families this season.

ReachAnother Foundation’s mission is to create a future where Ethiopian children are free from preventable neural tube defects and receive high-quality treatment and aftercare for spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Through partnerships with local and global organizations, ReachAnother advances programs that span prevention, treatment, and aftercare. These initiatives include folic acid fortification, surgical interventions, professional training, and multi-disciplinary aftercare services—all of which aim to foster sustainable health improvements across Ethiopia.

"After surgery, these children need ongoing support to ensure a successful recovery. The Healing Kits are an essential part of this journey, offering the supplies necessary for continued care at home," said Patricia O’Neill, Co-Founder and President of ReachAnother Foundation. "This campaign is an impactful way for our community to join us in transforming lives beyond surgery."

Join the Chairman's Challenge! From December 5th through December 8th, ReachAnother’s Board Chair, David Morrissey, will match every Healing Kit donated—up to 50 kits! This is a perfect opportunity to double your impact during the holiday season. Consider giving a Healing Kit as a meaningful holiday gift in the name of a friend or family member. Your gift will provide life-saving aftercare to a child recovering from surgery in Ethiopia. Donors of five or more kits will receive a beautiful Ethiopian scarf as a special thank-you.

Donations can be made online, and every dollar goes directly to families in need, ensuring children have the best chance to recover and thrive.
