Fog persists, wet pattern coming to an end, dry and milder weather on the way

Fog continues to linger in the region, driving conditions are a concern. Not all areas are dealing with fog, but locations like Bend and Lava Butte may see the mist at lower elevations into the evening.

Off and on rain showers and/or snow have been measured in Central Oregon since the middle. The area has not had more than two days without measurable precipitation since the 12th of December (Redmond climate data) as wave after wave of precipitation has crossed the area. The pattern is about to change to a much drier regiment for at least the next 5 days with only a passing shower possible late in the week.

An area of high pressure will develop and linger over the Pacific Northwest through the next several days.  Friday will see a brief break in the day days with a slight chance for some rain.  Saturday high pressure re-establishes itself and we will continue for a few more days of sunny and dry conditions.

The heavy mountain snow and the low elevation light, persistent rain has helped relieve much of the below normal conditions.  Since the winter months have less of a chance for high evaporation rates due to the cold an low sun angle, we are building our up our water tables.

Temperatures this week will be warming into the upper 40s by the middle of the week as the solar energy will assist in the daily warming.  Expect to see clear skies overnight at times which will allow the area to cool quickly in the cloud free nights.

The next chance for some rainy weather will be Friday as a weak impulse pushes across the area.  This will bring cloudy skies and a slight chance for some high desert rain and mountain snow.  This will be short lived as high pressure returns Saturday and will linger for the weekend and the beginning of next week.

Please stay safe.
